Innovate Memphis Names New Transportation and Mobility Director
MEMPHIS, TN – Innovate Memphis announces the hire of Jackson McNeil as Transportation and Mobility Director for Commute Options. In this role, McNeil is responsible for providing project management and delivery of current and emerging transportation-related projects with a focus on encouraging individuals, employers, and schools to promote transportation alternatives. The position includes research, policy, and outreach opportunities to encourage system-wide improvements to transit and mobility in Memphis and Shelby County.
In the upcoming year, McNeil will oversee several initiatives, including working with schools to develop and encourage safe and effective transportation options for students. Additional priorities are an educational social media series on bicycle and pedestrian safety, engaging the Memphis community, and supporting community partners such as the Downtown Memphis Commission, Memphis Medical District Collaborative, Bike/Ped Memphis, Explore Bike Share, Memphis Area Transit Authority, Shelby County Health Department, and more.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jackson to the Innovate Memphis and Commute Options team,” said Jessica Lotz, Executive Director of Innovate Memphis. “Jackson is not only a dedicated advocate and practitioner when it comes to alternative modes of transportation; he also has a versatile skill set to offer from his past work in the government, nonprofit, and private sectors.”
McNeil received his undergraduate degree in Urban Studies from Rhodes College and a Master’s Degree of City and Regional Planning from the University of Memphis. He joins Commute Options from Consilience Group, a mission-driven systems transformation firm committed to the physical, social, and economic wellbeing of all people and communities. As an associate, McNeil facilitated people-centered strategic planning, developed data-supported recommendations, and built relationships with clients and stakeholders.
“I refer to myself as a transportation nerd who is motivated by compassion and improving outcomes for everyone,” McNeil said. “I am passionate about building relationships and empowering all people to make informed decisions about their communities.”
Prior experience includes Mobility Management Coordinator with the New York City Department of Transportation Strategic Planning Unit and Mobile Porch Program Manager with BLDG Memphis.Commute Options, an initiative of Innovate Memphis, is designed to decrease the use of single-occupancy vehicles in Memphis by encouraging residents to use commute options such as walking, biking, carpooling, or public transit whenever possible.
